10 July 2004
Finally saw the Land Rover in all it's glory. My first impression was, it doesn't look bad. It actually looks pretty
good. I think Gary thought the same. My thoughts upon closer inspection was, "I wonder if he's going to repaint it and
if he's replacing the seats." I like the color but I think it needs to be repainted. The seats needs reupholstering.
He said that maybe later on the project phase, he'll address these issues. As for now, he wants to pass MOT first.
11 July 2004
Gary took the Land Rover to the auto hobby shop today. He cleaned the underbody and started making a list of what needs
to be worked on.
- exhaust manifold had bolt sheared off
- front crank oil seal leaks
- front axle leaks at the swivel joints
- front drive shaft grease fittings
- speedo cable broke at gear box
- seat belts need replacement
I say, it needs new seats.
Ordered the first batch of parts today.
19 July 2004
Didn't get a chance to work on the LR last week since we were on a mini-holiday but the parts ordered came in 13 July.
Today he worked on replacing the drive shaft, unfortunately, he also found out that the fuel tank has a few leaks.
Got on the internet again and ordered gas tank.
Replaced gas tank & driver's seat belt. Had to drill rivets to access seat belt bolt. Didn't get to work on the passenger
side seat belt.
23 July 2004
Replaced passenger's seat belt, removed exhaust manifold & intake manifold. Broke 3 long studs, had to replace with
new studs. Installed exhaust gasket & temporarily installed both manifolds.
25 July 2004
Gary had a whole day to work on the Land Rover today. Finished manifold and passenger seat belt. Adjusted speedometer cable
to read speed.
26 July 2004
Adjusted the carburator, got it down to 1.5 CO% and HC to less than 500. YIPEE!!! Got the windshield washers to work, too.
28 July 2004
Took it to a friend from MOT, he informally inspected and found 3 holes in the frame, brake lines needed to be secured,
2 shocks bushings are worn, U bolt on right-front axle too short. Debating wheter to replace the whole frame or just replace
back-half & front-quarter. Will buy procomp shock absorber since thinking of replacing leaf springs to parabolic.
